ABSTRACT
The political process, aided by the mass communications media, needs to seek to develop a broader consensus on what is really in the public interest, rather than doing everything it can to create greater divisiveness. Whatever it will take to improve the political process is very important indeed. That should indeed be our common cause. Textbooks should call for that.
