ABSTRACT

Labor movement traditions help us find ourselves, enable us to render meaning to the flux of events. For here is where we tackle the most important questions of all--questions of purpose, of the right and wrong ways to act, and of the common good ... questions a rank-andfiler can grasp as a soul's obligation. Here is where Labor promotes a shared vocabulary that highlights what unites us, what we have in common. Here is where Labor builds a civil society within, and dares to explore its moral center.
