ABSTRACT
Yukio Mishima published Kinkakuji (The temple of the golden pavilion) in 1956. In 1970 he led the abortive coup d'etat that ended with his highly dramatic ritual suieide. Yoichi Takabayashi's screen adaptation ofthe novel appeared six years later.
