ABSTRACT

In a recent debate on antidwnping laws, the author was challenged to provide "one reason why consumers should be forced to pay higher prices for imported goods." The viewpoint behind this question is similar to that of the unnamed Reagan administration official who some years ago argued that the United States should not take any action to combat dwnping of supercomputers. As the official reportedly stated his position, "If the Japanese want to dwnp supercomputers, I will buy one .... We could all buy one."
