In the previous chapter, the experience of Heng Dian demonstrated the degree to which the woodcarving industry had been superseded in its importance to Dongyang county's economy by the development of the modern light and moderately heavy industrial sectors. Nevertheless, the artisanal sector of the rural economy has also witnessed significant development in its own right under the reforms of the Third Plenum of the Eleventh Central Committee (TPECC), both nationally and in Zhejiang province.
