ABSTRACT

The future of children in this region remains unpredictable, challenged by the numerous hardships of transition. Countries are struggling to secure the future for children, and to create a better world for them today, by promoting, protecting, and implementing children's rights. Progress will depend on the efforts of many groups—national and local governments, donors, international agencies, NGOs, and communities—working together to advocate and implement sound child-focused policies. What is needed most in this collaborative effort is a way to effect social restructuring and economic transition with a "human face."
