Thereasonsthatstudentschoosetodropoutofschoolarevariedandcomplex andcanbecategorizedas"in-schoolreasons"and"outofschoolreasons."Out ofschoolreasonsareinfluencedbypolitical,economic,andfamilyissuesaswell asinvolvementindrugs,alcohol,gangs,and/orcriminalactivity.Thischapter addressesonlythoseissuesthatpertaintotheschoolenvironment.However,itis importanttoacknowledgethatalloftheseissuesaffecteachotherandare inextricablyboundtogetherinacompletecontextthataffectseachindividual studentwhomakesthedecisiontoeithercontinuehis/herformalschoolingorto dropoutofschool.
