ABSTRACT

School leaders must guide others in crafting purpose statements for teaching and learning. As part of continuous improvement, schools have likely created overall vision and mission statements that address students' academic, social, emotional, and physical development. School leaders can highlight the teaching and learning purpose statement in a wide variety of ways. School leaders must design school improvement work around equity and excellence goals. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) promotes equity in learning in its guidance to states and schools. School leaders and grade level teacher teams can develop comprehensive individual learning plans to allocate high quality resources to low-performing students. The Checklist will assist school leaders in providing families with access to basic information about the tests and the many free resources available to their children. Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides students with the academic and technical programming to give them firsthand knowledge about skills needed for the highly competitive workplace.
