ABSTRACT

Recent research has highlighted the negative perceptions psychotherapists have about BDSM. By having unquestioned paradigms and cultural views, psychotherapists unwittingly and unintentionally perpetuate persecution. Researchers found many instances of misconceptions, biases, unethical practices, and unwillingness of therapists to move beyond their prejudices toward BDSM and other alternative sexualities. This chapter provides a discussion and research on how therapeutic biases impact research as well as clients’ experiences.
