ABSTRACT
In this section, the physical and psycho-spiritual transformative aspects and qualities of BDSM practices and relationships will be discussed. The three transformative aspects of BDSM include (1) qualities inherent in pain and suffering, (2) characteristics in BDSM relationships, and (3) characteristics of BDSM community. Utilizing the authors’ ethnographic research through interviews of participants as well as workshops conducted by members of the BDSM community, participants’ views of the transformative practices in community, relationship, and pain experience will be explored.
