ABSTRACT

The transformations of this time generate the most fundamental questions for society about what it is to become a person or to create a community of mutual recognition raising for consideration whether the society has the political resources to forge a new settlement for social justice and social cohesion. Experience is not a sensation, nor does it mean an experienced craftsman. Knowledge grows out of experience and experiment, but it becomes formalized when abstracted from its source in experience. The task of education is not just to discover how the past has shaped the child, and what stage she has reached but more importantly to grasp what she is not yet, but has the potential to become. The role of meaning is central in understanding children's motivation to learn as well as their development of moral perception and rational thought. The young citizens were engaged in projects which involve re-imagining their lives and those of others.
