ABSTRACT
Climate—the general atmosphere of a situation—affects how conflict interaction unfolds. Three types of climate based on interdependence are defined: promotive, contrient, and independent climates. The role of each of these climates on conflict interaction and how they are constituted by this interaction is delineated. Working to develop more positive climates can promote constructive conflict interaction. This is illustrated in several cases.
