ABSTRACT
Capturing some of the stories behind the scenes is a great addition to any series. The key is to spend enough time to really take in the scene without always having the camera to photographer eyes. There is something very heartwarming about seeing a beautiful smile. Using a special effects lens is a great exercise in creativity. The Lensbaby Velvet offers a new way of seeing and forces the photographer to let go of the notion of sharpness. The fun is in experimentation with different levels of soft focus, depending on the chosen aperture. The challenge of manual focusing added another level of difficulty to the low-light situation inside the buildings. There will always be an element of surprise in the photographs it produces, which may just be the biggest appeal of such a lens. The anticipation is somewhat reminiscent of shooting film.
