ABSTRACT
This chapter describes data from on-going national study of gay men of color at predominantly White and historically Black colleges and universities in the United States. There is one observation that deserves mention as it relates to prevailing gay identity development models and core elements of sense of belonging. Data from the national study were analyzed to identify major themes related to the sense of belonging of gay men of color in college. Of course, participants also shared how they engaged in prosocial activities to find a sense of belonging in college and these represent possible pathways for others like them. Fassinger's model attempts to capture LGBT and ethnic identity development as they unfold simultaneously. Information stresses the important role that belonging plays in the lives of college students, particularly those who perceive themselves as marginal to campus life such as gay men of color.
