ABSTRACT
The United States’ governmental apparatus to protect the homeland against foreign-connected and domestic terrorists is huge, involving all three branches of government – executive, legislative and judicial. This chapter offers an overview of the over 1200 agencies involved in steering this enterprise: those engaged in core operations (intelligence collection, law enforcement, border protection, military detainment and prosecution); and those crucial to the legal operation of the enterprise (including overseeing and constraining mechanisms).
