ABSTRACT

This chapter explains trends affecting Human Performance Improvement (HPI) practitioners. The trends are classified into two categories. The first category consists of business and public-sector trends. The second category consists of workforce trends. While each industry has its unique characteristics and unique responses to the global economy and other corporate challenges, several trends appear to be true for most corporations and public-sector agencies. The chapter discusses these corporate and public-sector trends and their implications for HPI practitioners. It reviews the workforce and human resource trends and their implications for HPI practitioners. Many companies have implemented large, comprehensive human resource (HR) cloud-based systems to track everything from compensation and benefits through performance management. Companies need to adapt management and coaching systems and put creative team-building approaches into place. Most companies store some sort of customer data. Some is simple contact data, which, if released/hacked, can impact customers' privacy.
