ABSTRACT

This chapter opens with a vignette that describes an encounter with a student who spontaneously expressed her attitudes towards English to introduce the book and the study on which it is based. It describes the aims of the book: to provide insights into the L2 learning experiences of youth in a unique context; to foreground theoretical constructs and questions pivotal in the study of global English learning and identity today; and to question existing research approaches in the study of English in global contexts. It closes with the structure of the book in which an overview of the contents of each chapter is provided.
