ABSTRACT

We’ve seen earlier that the principle of “stop the process” (jidoka in lean thinking terminology) actually derived from the weaving industry and been successfully applied to many industries as part of lean thinking. Taiichi Ohno’s adaptation of this concept for use in the Toyota Motor Company was revolutionary. So if Ohno can adapt, modify, and then develop concepts from the spinning and weaving industry, what else is out there in other manufacturing industries that might be capable of being generalized and applied to any process improvement-be that process in the Žnancial, manufacturing, or service industries?
