ABSTRACT

Planning is one of the most important tasks for managers who run a functional area or department. Oªen, it is mandatory in well-structured corporations. Maintenance is no exception; in fact, since the maintenance department is considered an overhead function, its plan is typically under a great deal of scrutiny, with constant pressures for cost reduction. Œerefore, maintenance managers oªen spend more e¢ort in formulating and justifying the plan. A carefully developed and wellsupported plan sets a good foundation for the success of the maintenance operation.
