ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an aggressive list of transactional and knowledge process improvement opportunities in typical manufacturing, distributor, and service industries. All of these opportunities are based on actual, real-world improvement projects in many diverse types of industries: high technology, automotive, consumer goods, traditional manufacturing, aerospace and defense, process industries, capital equipment manufacturer, papermaking, pharmaceutical, medical instruments, clean room microscopic assembly operations, and dozens of other environments. The improvement opportunities presented in this chapter are also relevant to many industries outside manufacturing with very similar transactional processes, such as communications, mining, building construction, energy, transportation, insurance, healthcare, ¥nancial services, utilities, retail, and professional services organizations. For those who may be thinking “we are different,” this excuse no longer holds water in the new economy.
