ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 describes the historical development of Japan’s manufacturing overseas expansion. It includes financial and market growth reasons for expansion and company views of future trends. It also touches on decision making concerning where to expand, through describing the planning process by which investment decisions are made. Chapter 8 is about transferring and receiving sides’ opinions of problems and difficulties of overseas expansion after the decision to expand has been made. This chapter returns to the question of decision making on where to expand, but from a skills and technology capability point of view.
