ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows that it was possible to link Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practitioners emic understanding of their narratives to an etic reading that recast those narratives as representative of a larger group of narratives illustrative of the paradigm of positive peace. It suggests that the paradigm of positive peace has potential to influence other paradigms as well as how individual practitioners use CSR strategies in the natural resources sector. The book argues that there may be some advantages for international organisations, governments, IFIs, NGOs and civil society actors to engage these practitioners functioning as peacebuilders within natural resources companies'. It also presents first step towards understanding that improved CSR practice in the natural resources context lies not merely in developing a new guidance note, toolkit, or voluntary initiative.
