ABSTRACT
The Polish government, which has carried on for five and a half years against the Germans, is put in this position: it must commit suicide by signing away nearly one-half its territory without consulting its people, or else England, which went to war supposedly to defend Poland's integrity, threatens it with disrecognition. Poland lies in an open plain between Germany and Russia. Russia- Poland-Germany: that triangle of relationships is the heart of Europe. When there is sickness there, Europe is sick, and the peace and order existing are a false order and a false peace. The Allied powers, who had just reconstituted Poland, proposed a temporary military demarcation line between the two exhausted armies, while peace was being negotiated. Poland had just been reborn during World War I and, under Marshal Pilsudski, had made an effort to recover all of its old territory, or set up buffer states between Poland and the Soviet Union.
