ABSTRACT

Six presidents stand out as the biggest stars ever to occupy the White House in modern times: Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. Each of them learned to dominate the mass media of his day, and each came to represent key parts of the American ethos. This propelled them to iconic status, enabling them to capture and hold the nation’s attention, sell their agendas, and, through deft use of stagecraft and propaganda, enhance their popularity.
