ABSTRACT
Jung situates astrology within the transformation of Western civilization in the modern era, viewing it as one of a number of movements that reflect a burgeoning interest in the psychological and the irrational since the late eighteenth century. Jung sees this movement as compensatory to the championing of rationality after the Enlightenment and the decline of religion in the modern world. He notes the widespread popularity of astrology in the twentieth century.
