Planets and gods

Jung explicitly connects astrology to the psychology of the unconscious, construing astrology in terms of his theory of archetypes, then touching on specific archetypal qualities associated with Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. For Jung, the planets in astrology are akin to the gods of myth. Using a “planet simile,” he compares the relationship of the archetypes and the conscious ego to that between the planets and the sun.
