M bali, or more correctly Ovimbali, is correctly an Umbundu term for those who imitate Europeans, or who live near European towns, which are collectively called lu p a l i .(12) j t js frequently used by early writers - for example, by Livingstone,^ 3 ) to refer to the Ovimbundu of the trading caravans.
