ABSTRACT

The rains begin in October in most of the region, but sometimes earlier in Mwinilunga. The heaviest rain falls during November and December, the main planting months. In January and February lower-lying areas are sub­ ject to two or three weeks* mid-season drought, a frequent cause of crop failures. Rain diminishes in March and ends in April, the latest rains falling in Mwinilunga. Düring the period between 1926 and 1937 annual rainfall at Mwinilunga ranged from 47.88 in. to 74.83 in. with a mean of 54.75 in. The heaviest fall, usually during December, is 9 to 17 in. At Kasempa station average rainfall is 43.68 in., at Solwezi 43.68 in., and at Balovale 44.74 in.
