ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the skills, personality traits and professional expectations about members of the camera department from trainee to DP. Candid interviews recounting experiences give important insights and perspectives that would take many years to gather. The tools of self-assessment introduced in Chapter 1 are now used to enable you to create a framework that can help build your career. The chapter concludes with examples, advice and insights from DPs working in many different genres, and at various stages of their career. These highlight the importance of a balance between technical capabilities, creativity and personal approach across the industry.
