ABSTRACT

This chapter provides insight into the influence of US policies on privatization and education and how it impacts the formation of academic–community networks within the US as well as countries as geographically far away as Bangladesh. It also provides direct commentary and analysis about the state of academic–community partnerships in both US and Bangladesh, and highlights the need for projects like The BGreen Project to challenge the educational and youth engagement challenges, one that dismisses “damage-centered” discourses. The chapter traces the academic–community partnerships and networks that were established with national and international organizations to make BGreen possible in the US and Bangladesh. It discusses the political economy of the media and the importance of such media exposure and amplification for a project, especially considering that BGreen has non-commercial academic–community origins. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
