ABSTRACT

Starting in the north, and listed clockwise, the people bordering on this tribal cluster are as follows. Due north of the Sukuma, across Speke Gulf, are the Kerewe. To the north-east lie the Shashi, Ikizu and Ikoma. The eastern and south-eastern neighbours of the Sukuma are the Masai, Kindiga (Hadza) and Isanzu. The Iramba and Nyaturu are the eastern neighbours of the Nyamwezi. To the east of the Kimbu are the Gogo. To the south-west of the Kimbu, across Lake Rukwa, are the Wanda, Nyika and Fipa. To the south of the Konongo lie the Rungwa, to the south-west and west the Pimbwe and Bende, and to the north-west the Tongwe. The western neighbours of the Nyamwezi are the Vinza and the Ha. The Ha are also western neighbours of the Sumbwa, whose north-western neighbours are the Subi. To the north of the Sumbwa, and to the west and north-west of the Sukuma, are the Zinza.
