ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the case studies of four TNE institutions for more in-depth looks at their project strategies and activities. The institutions include a private research university with a strong social justice mission—Boston College; a large, primarily undergraduate public institution that serves a majority-minority student body—California State University at Northridge; a large public research university that has nationally recognized teacher preparation programs (TPPs)—Michigan State University; and a large public research university that has relatively small TPPs—the University of Washington. The chapter analyses the strategies and activities these institutions employed to collect and use evidence to improve the preparation and support of teachers. The theory of action (TOA) framework enables us to identify factors in the environment that may have impeded their evidence work. Finally, applying the TOA framework brings to the fore the underlying theory of change that is the foundation for project strategies and activities.
