ABSTRACT

Familiarity with the bones of the face becomes increasingly important when applying age makeup, and when sculpting facial features for prosthetics. When a character’s age is advancing, the muscles show a loss of tone and begin to sag. Sometimes, in extreme old age, the face can take on the effect of a skull draped with skin. The cheekbone or zygomatic arch is one of the most important bones of the face for the makeup artist, and familiarity with its location and shape is essential for accurate modeling. The anatomy of the specific human face is that going to apply a makeup on is the foundation for planning and executing a successful look. The makeup design can be for corrective, beauty, character, age, trauma, creature, alien, monster, or any fantasy being from imagination—the process must begin with knowledge and analysis of facial structure.
