ABSTRACT

University-city relations in different areas of the world evolved along different tracks in the past, but now they meet together with close linkages between the university and the city. The mutual influence of the university and the city is vividly reflected in the spatial dimension. To explore the dynamics of university spatial development and urban transformation and the mechanism of their interrelations, this book interprets the space of the university from the spatio-temporal and socio-spatial perspectives, analyses the dynamics of university-city interaction at the global, national and local scales, and makes case studies on two different types of university-city relations in Shanghai.
