ABSTRACT

This chapter provides suggestions for developing measurement and evaluation models for application in typical school physical education programs and in nonschool activity programs found in corporate, community, commercial, and clinical activity settings. Case studies and checks for student understanding were included in both major sections of the chapter. Section 1 focuses on school settings. Factors that impact the design of appropriate measurement and evaluation models are presented. Steps to blend assessment into instruction as well as summary guidelines for effective measurement and evaluation are also included to emphasize points that have been made previously throughout the textbook. Examples of measurement and evaluation models at the elementary, middle, and high school levels are provided. Section 2 concentrates on practical measurement and evaluation issues in nonschool activity settings. Because many differences exist in the nature of school and nonschool settings, the nature of measurement and evaluation changes substantially. A general model for measurement and evaluation in nonschool settings is presented, followed by a more specific case study using this model.
