ABSTRACT

The key to successful global apparel supply chain management is heavily based on the selection of qualified vendors. Simply searching vendors providing the lowest bid prices is no longer 'efficient sourcing strategy'. Multiple criteria thereby should be incorporated into the process of selecting vendors. The fundamental rationale behind this is to determine weights associated with each criterion, which play an extremely significant function in the procedure of decision making. The rationale of minimizing the overall deviation from the ideal point approach is attempting to allow the performance with respect to each criterion as near to the ideal point as possible. In the context of Multiple Criteria vendor selection determined by a committee, it will be extremely hard to achieve a group consensus on the weighting schemes considering multiple evaluation criteria. The analysis in this chapter not only shows the robustness, but also the effectiveness of the proposed methods in terms of providing a complete ranking of the vendors.
