ABSTRACT
The main steps in achieving an internship are selecting the field site, knowing the academic requirements for internships at your campus program, and successfully completing the placement process based on your academic and career goals. There are several factors for both the student and agency to consider in the placement process. Choosing and finding an appropriate internship, writing a résumé, undertaking the internship interview, and going through background screening and selection are crucial to this selection process. It is the responsibility of the criminal justice faculty and the internship coordinator to approve only those organizations that have high standards of professional performance and that are willing to work to provide a worthwhile and educational experience. In turn, the student is responsible for presenting him-or herself in the best light: from a complete, professional résumé and cover letter to professional appearance and performance during the internship interview.
