ABSTRACT
The objective of this chapter is to trace how EU political priorities and operational principles for sustainable development and, in particular, for sustainable urban development (SUD) have been translated into national and regional economic and social development programmes co-financed by EU structural funds. Therefore, the analysis will focus on the content and implementation settings of selected national and regional operational programmes co-funded by the ERDF during the 2007–2013 and 2014–2020 periods, illustrating how and to what extent target actors have aligned with common policy principles and goals by deploying EU financial resources and related strategic guidance.
