ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the balance of the tools and how to proceed once the analysis is completed. It discusses suggested solutions for improvements and making recommendations to management to secure their buy-in and approval. Once the Baseline, assess, suggest solutions, implement, check, and sustain tools are implemented, the companies should have an idea of the time and dedication required to pursue the implementation strategy. The most important thing to avoid in any layout is isolated islands. Isolated islands are created when operators are positioned in such a way they are boxed in or are so far away from each other they cannot flex and help each other out. Traditional electronics assembly, off-line subassembly operations, and office layout normally contain isolated islands. In assembly operations, there are normally benches set up in advance by the supervisor or on the fly by the operators for the operation listed in the router they are working on.
