ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on managing the project using the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Body of Knowledge as a guideline. Often Lean initiatives are undertaken because of a compelling need to change. The communication plan is a critical component of all Lean initiatives as it not only serves to provide status updates on the project but also provides information on the acceptance, wins, or challenges in which case revisions to the overall plan may be needed. The project plan of the Lean initiative is a living document that will continually be updated throughout the life of the project. Once a Lean initiative has been completed, it is very important for the team to celebrate the results. The project leader/manager has a responsibility to thank and reward the project team members for a successful project. Often Lean initiatives are undertaken because of a compelling need to change. Lessons learned should be captured and shared throughout the life of any initiative.
