ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on Lean and meetings, and argues that meetings are necessary for communication and problem-solving. Despite the cost and lost productivity, most organizations still believe that meetings play a crucial role in disseminating information and providing a venue to discuss topics requiring decisions. Meetings need to add value for both the participants and the organization, such as stand-up meetings with specific agendas and timeframes that are strictly adhered to. There are different types of meetings that serve different customer or business requirements. Examples of meeting types are: top-down status meetings; daily meeting or huddles; customer-required meetings, such as a program review or design review; informational meetings; and problem-solving meetings. The team leader has the responsibility to use the tool, and it generally only takes a minute or two to walk through the tool.
