ABSTRACT

It is strange writing these books. The characters get under your skin, their journeys whilst fictitious, take on a certain reality. Not everyone, of course, will have the experiences of Steve and Julia. Everyone with a problem related to over-eating will have their own unique reasons, experiences, and ways of responding to a need to lose weight. Not everyone will have underlying emotional issues to deal with, but many will, and they may not be aware of them at first. And not everyone’s obesity, as mentioned at the start of the book, is due solely to over-eating, although most overweight problems are directly as a result of over-eating – too many calories with not enough expenditure of energy. Only about 1 per cent of obesity cases are medication- or endocrine-related.
