Jeannie had described to Max what had been happening since she had last seen him, and the struggle that Dan was having with himself, and with his current drug taking. How there had emerged within him a sense of not wanting to feel, that while he was motivated to change there seemed to be something working against it, and the wonder at the synchronicity of the flat battery, of wanting to get the methadone out of his system, get clean and sober and to move on to a new life.
