ABSTRACT

Jeannie knew she felt a little different this week as she waited for Dan to arrive. She was now much more mindful of the impact he was having on her, and while she knew she needed to guard against her own struggle to contain it, she also recognised that she had to be open. In fact, since her supervision session, she had been reflecting more on this and in a way had reached the conclusion that perhaps she simply needed to make more visible the impact it was having on her to help make real the nature and extent of what Dan was bringing into the their relationship. It brought to mind the notion of transparency that she had read about many times as a way of describing an aspect of congruence, and the importance of self-acceptance. If she could not be accepting of her feelings and reactions to Dan, embrace them as part of the reality of her own process within their relationship, she was not going to be much help to him.
