ABSTRACT

Her condition has recently deteriorated. Her better days do not allow her much movement, although she can get around the house, into the garden and out to the car.

Pauline’s partner of many years, Diana, is extremely supportive of her. They live in a bungalow that has been adapted for Pauline’s needs. She remains cheerful in spite of her difficulties. Over the years she has been on various medications to try to hold back the development of the condition. They helped to some degree but the progression has continued relentlessly. Life has been a series of struggles, clinging to personal freedoms until the last moment - for instance, having to give up work, which was a major blow to Pauline. However, she has been active in a MS support group, although there have been times when she has not been able to attend. She found this hard to come to terms with.
