ABSTRACT

Peter reflects on his experience so far I really didn’t know what to expect from counselling, and for a long while I was unsure whether it was helpful. But in the end, I realised that although it wasn’t a comfortable process, it has made a huge difference. Hard to know exactly what it was that had the effect, though. I mean, feelings, memories seemed to emerge as time went on, and then the things happening in my own life seem to add more meaning to it all. It was more of a process than a specific event. To try to say that a particular experience in counselling made the difference, well, I can’t point to anything. I mean, I know reliving that experience as a child asking for the drink of water, yes, that was significant. But did it cause me to change? I don’t know.
