ABSTRACT

Acupuncture has been an integral part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for

more than 2000 years. It is a concept of the Taoist philosophy. This is based on

a belief that the human body is in a state of dynamic interaction with nature,

environment and universe. It is still part of routine medical training in China.

Acupuncture is one of the main approaches of Chinese medicine and the most

thoroughly researched and documented of all the complementary therapies. In

addition to treating specific problems, it is also deemed to have a supporting and

stimulating effect on the immune system and to improve the circulation.2,3 It may

also be used to stimulate hormones, which help the body respond more efficiently

to stress or injury.3
