ABSTRACT
This chapter considers nurse practitioners in general in the UK, and examines a particular case study in Derbyshire where three nurse practitioners in general practice were appointed to their posts in 1990, two of whom are still there in 1999. The study gives a rare opportunity therefore to see the development of the role over a considerable time.
