ABSTRACT

What are the environmental issues for future generations? Based on what we presently know about trends in pollution, the controls in place to control environmental violations, and the political landscape, we can offer an educated glimpse into the future. The danger of hazardous pollution is expected to rise, perhaps dramatically, in those regions, such as the Middle East, that will experience continued oil and gas production. The prevalence of electronic and biomedical waste is expected to increase substantially, as is air pollution over South Asia. On the control side, many countries in Europe and Asia are engaged in the development of technological solutions to control the levels of waste and pollution. The current prospects for the control of pollution and hazardous waste in the United States are not as favorable. The Trump administration has decreased substantially the budget of the EPA, has lowered enforcement efforts, and has changed regulatory protections that were in place to reduce pollution and the impact of climate change.
