ABSTRACT

Mark continues to attend his appointments with Dr Ashton. He is taking his methadone but has used benzodiazepines - which came up on a urine test - and alcohol to quell anxiety and feeling on edge. He is working with a mood diary to help him better understand himself and what triggers mood change. It is recognised that he may need more than one-to-one counselling. He is referred to a non-statutory agency which is soon to be starting a day programme for people on methadone maintenance or any drug that they are seeking to maintain control of their use. Mark's alcohol use also becomes clearer, but rather than increasing the methadone it is decided that more support and contact and other diversionary strategies might be more helpful. However, the position is to be kept under constant review.
